M 57

M57, known as NGC 6720 or the Ring Nebula, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Lyra, discovered in 1779. It's the glowing shell of gas ejected by a dying Sun-like star, spanning about 1 light-year in diameter.  Apparent magnitude is 8.8. Distance from Earth is 2,300 light-years.
